Monster Punk Horizon is a #1 Best Seller! 😀

December 26, 2021 by hpholo Leave a Comment

Hey, Holo fans! 😀 I was doodling on Amazon at the ridiculous hours of last night when I came upon this delightful little screen:

Which is to say, as of Christmas night, Monster Punk Horizon is a #1 Best Seller on Amazon’s Steampunk Fiction booklist! 😮 It’s the dream of every author to see that bright orange tag next to their books – and this is the first time it’s ever happened to me – so I have to say, from the bottom of my weird, hyperactive author heart:

THANKS A BUNCH. 😊

Authors don’t become Best Sellers without the support of readers, and it’s because of you all that I was able to achieve one of my lifelong dreams.

And speaking of my new series … if you haven’t tried it out yet, this is the perfect week to do so! 😀

From now through Wednesday, December 29th, the Monster Punk Horizon eBook is just $.99 and Isekai Skies (#2) is just $1.99, so if you’ve been curious to check out this strange little product of an overactive imagination and too many video games, now’s your chance! 😀

Read Monster Punk Horizon Here for $.99
Read Isekai Skies Here for $1.99

Introducing Monster Punk Horizon – a New GameLit Series from H.P. Holo!

August 2, 2021 by hpholo Leave a Comment

Yesterday’s blog post told you there’d be interesting book-and-monster-related news, and here it is!

It’s been a looooong time coming, but I’m excited to announce that I finally have a new series coming out! 😀

What new series is this, you ask? 😮 Well, read on!

Where my last book The Wizard’s Way was a love letter to all things steampunk, this series is a love letter to all things monster – hunting, collecting, researching … and sometimes, befriending and bribing into badass kaiju battles. 😄

See, while I was in the process of writing The (still-in-progress) Wizard’s Circus, I flipped through some of my early writing notebooks from middle school and junior high. Around that time, I was obsessed with Pokémon, Digimon, Monster Rancher, and virtually every other monster franchise that was coming over from Japan at that time – and it showed in my writing. There were monsters and monster trainers/tamers/friends everywhere, and as I continued to flip through these notebooks, I realized that decades later, I’m still into these kinds of franchises.

After all, as of recently, Jacob and I have been spending our weekends competing in Digimon Card Game tournaments, and even before that we spent most evenings playing Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise together!

It was then that an idea hit me, and would not let go until I’d brought it to realization – a series that pays loving homage to all those monster franchises in much the same way The Wizard’s Way did to steampunk fantasy.

And so, without further ado, I present to you Monster Punk Horizon, a GameLit fantasy adventure comedy coming soon to Kindle Unlimited!

Men Hunting Things – Book Review

February 6, 2021 by hpholo Leave a Comment

I picked up David Drake’s Men Hunting Things anthology for its amusingly frank title and, as has been a trend as of late, ended up finding a new favorite anthology. 😀

Its straightforward title belies a book of unexpected variety and complexity.

While some of the stories are simple and hilarious (Wilson Tucker’s “Gentlemen, The Queen!”), others offer a deep and often unsettling look at the psychologies of hunter and hunted, and frequently question which is actually the animal (or monster) in the story – the literal target, or the one hunting that target (or commissioning the hunt, in the case of Robert Silverberg’s “The Day The Monsters Broke Loose.”)

There’s a great diversity of story types, too, from the hard sci-fi of Clifford D. Simak’s “Good Night, Mr. James” and Eric Frank Russell’s “Mechanical Mice” to the moody Victorian-style horror of Alister McAllister’s “The Hunting on the Doonagh Bog” to the downright dystopia of Henry Kuttner’s “Home is the Hunter.”

I name these as standouts, but honestly there’s not a bad story in the bunch. If you’re looking for an anthology that balances the fun with the deep and hard sci-fi with the light, give it a try!
